Jan Darleen (Gibson) Brooks, 68, formerly of Evansville, went to be with the Lord and rejoin her family she so dearly missed. Her passing occurred on a beautiful Fourth of July evening with fireworks and a full moon glowing in the Arizona desert.

Jan was born October 25, 1954, in Evansville to the late James and Darleen (Cain) Gibson. She was a 1972 graduate of FJ Reitz High School and furthered her education at the University of Evansville. Jan was well known at FJ Reitz High School as Majorette Captain known as the "Silver Panther" where she conducted high-stepping routines in coordination with the band and twirled her baton keeping the football fans in awe during halftime at Reitz Bowl. Ms. Brooks worked for the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Indiana 7th Circuit holding various roles such as Courtroom Deputy, Docket Clerk, Counter Deputy and Financial Clerk under the direction of the late U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michael H. Kearns. She also worked for Integra Bank as the Executive Secretary to the Vice President at the Civic Center Branch in downtown Evansville. Jan was a member of Green Peace International, Indiana Business Women of America, Vice-President of Evansville Dance Theater, Indiana Law Wives, Petroleum Club, Evansville Country Club, the Reitz Home Guild and Evansville Museum Guild.

Surviving Jan is her only son, Gene E. "Geno" Brooks, Jr. Her surviving extended family includes her brother's children James O. "Josh" Gibson II, Sara E. Gibson, Jacob "Jake" Gibson. and her late husband's son Marc E. Brooks (Denise Brooks). In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Chief Federal Judge Gene E. Brooks, Sr. and her brother, James O. "Duke" Gibson, Jr. (Glee Gibson).

Funeral services for Jan will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 14th, 2023, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 13th, 2023, at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
