Joshua Moody,

Minister ejected from England after 1660, settled in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and served at Boston's First Church
He was the first minister of the first church in Portsmouth where he commenced preaching in 1658.
He was ordained in 1671.
He declined election as the President of Harvard College in 1684.
He was originally elected to the Presidency of Harvard University as successor of John Rogers but declined the invitation by stating that "he still felt himself bound to his former people and would try the providence of God, if he might not preach near them, and they have liberty to hear him."
So writes the historian John Langdon Sibley in "Biographical Sketches of Graduates of Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts, Volume I 1642-1658, page 375.
Increase Mather (1639-1723) was appointed to the Presidency in his place.
Forced by the Royal Governor Cranfield, he left New Hampshire in 1684 and resided in Boston.
He was the assistant pastor of the Boston Church during the witch trials of 1692/93.
He helped one accused couple escape the gallows and in so doing came under heavy criticism of the Boston church.
He moved back to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1693 where he died about 1697.

He was an assistant minister of the first church of Boston from 23 May 1684 to 1692.
He then returned to be the minister at Portsmouth.
He died in 4 July 1697 on a visit to Boston? or in NH

He was the author of: "Communion with God," 1685; and "Election Sermon," 1692
