He was born in Red Creek, a son of the late French Harding Raines and Mary Katherine Keister Raines. On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Mary Alice Hess who preceded him in death on April 3, 1991.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Dale Raines of Guyton, GA and James Kirk Raines of Oakdale, PA; two sisters, Martha Raines of Red Creek and Dorothy Cutright of Hunington and three grandchildren, Katie and Sandie of Guyton, GA and Christopher of Oakdale, PA.

Mr. Raines was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and was a Certified Public Accountant for many years prior to retirement.

Ralph James Raines, 85, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 23, 1918, at Red Creek, the son of the late French Harding Raines and Mary Katherine Keister Raines.

On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Mary Alice Hess, who preceded him in death on April 3, 1991.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Dale Raines of Guyton, Ga., and James Kirk Raines of Oakdale, Pa.

Also surviving are two sisters, Martha V. Raines of Red Creek and Dorothy Cutright of Huntington; and three grandchildren, Katie and Sandie of Guyton, Ga., and Christopher of Oakdale, Pa.

Mr. Raines was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1935, attended West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg and graduated with honors with a bachelor of science degree in business administration from West Virginia University in 1953.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He was a certified public accountant for many years prior to his retirement.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating. Interment will follow in the Grafton National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Macular Degeneration Research, in care of Director of Development, American Health Assistance Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, Md. 20871, in memory of Mr. Raines. The Tomblyn Funeral Home is Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Ralph J. Raines.
