Daughter of Nicholas and Charlotte (Stanley) Van Dyke, his second wife. Nicholas was a member of the Continental Congress and the seventh Governor of Delaware, serving from 1783-1786. Aged 40 years, although church records and her death certificate indicate she was only 38 years. Unmarried. Died of "consumption of the lungs" (pulmonary tuberculosis) at the home of her uncle Dr. John White and late aunt, Elizabeth (Stanley) White.

Originally interred with member of Dr. John White's family in Range I 4 North of the Second Presbyterian burial ground, upper ground, on Noble Street. Removed to Mount Vernon Cemetery on May 2, 1867.
