Wayne Herbert Clark
Wayne was born in Chickasaw, Mississippi. During his teen years he worked as an unpaid farmhand on his family's farm. He eventually moved to Alabama. He graduated high school and began working on the docks as a seaman's apprentice on March 21, 1932. He married Velma Ruth Camper in 1938 and had their son, Robert Wayne Clark. Velma divorced Wayne in 1940. Wayne enlisted in the army on October 19, 1942 shortly after the outbreak of World War II. He underwent basic training in Fort McClellan, AL. He was assigned to the 10th Armored Division in Europe. He returned home and suffered from shell shock, or modern day PTSD. He had a violent mental breakdown upon returning home. He was admitted to the Tuscaloosa Neuropsychiatric Veteran's Hospital in mid-1944. He would recover, and by 1954 he was working as a store clerk. He never re-married and lived in Tuscaloosa for the rest of his life. He passed away June 2, 1983.
