Royal D. Sheldon a former telephone company auditor and accountant died Monday in the Linwood Convalescent Center, Linwood, NJ. Born Nov. 12, 1884 in Bismark, ND. He was 79 and for the past two years since being taken ill had been living with his daughter Mrs William A. Haffert Jr., at 355 45th Place here.
Mr Sheldon was the son of Charles F. and Mary L. (Richardson) Sheldon. He married Josephine Fitzgerald in Oklahoma City, OK. on May 29, 1914.
Mr Sheldon began his telephone career in the accounting office of the American Telephone and Telegraph Co in New York City, developing many of the auditing practices used by that company.
He later moved to the West Coast and worked for the Pacific Telephone Co. in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif and in Seattle Wash. In Seattle he was assistant general auditor in charge of the Northwest Division.
When he retired from the telephone company Mr. Sheldon opened an accounting office in Seattle and then retired and moved to West Palm Beach Fla. seven years ago. He came here from Florida after being taken ill about two years ago.
Mr Sheldon was a member of the Seattle Press Club and the Washington Athletic Club.
Besides his daughter he is survived by a brother Charles F. of St Louis Mo. and three sisters Mrs Harold Rapp and Miss Faith Sheldon of St. Louis and Miss Hope Sheldon of El Salvador, Central America.
The Rev Walter M. Sawn pastor of the Methodist Church here will officiate at services Wednesday at 10 am Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Seaville, NJ.
