Carl graduated from high school in 1955. He and Joan lived in Brashear while their children attended school at Adair County RII School. Carl was a very active parent, school board member, summer softball and baseball coach until 1986 when Carl and Joan moved to the Kansas City area. Carl was a long standing member of the Mary Immaculate Church in Kirksville, Missouri and the Knights of Columbus John F. Kennedy Fourth Degree Counsel. While living in Palmyra, Missouri, he was a member of St. Joseph Parrish, and the Knights of Columbus Counsel 1937. Most recently Carl attended the Good Shepherd Church, Smithville, Missouri. Carl was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 350 in Hannibal, Missouri for 40 years until he retired in 1998.
