Ruth Evalyn Partain, 90, of 2001 Highwood Avenue, Pekin, passed away 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. She was formerly of Harrisburg.
Born Dec. 1, 1917, in Harrisburg to John and Maggie (Taylor) Johnston, she married John William Partain on June 12, 1948, in Morganfield, Ky. He died Aug. 4, 1958, near Harrisburg. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Johnston and Joseph Johnston; and two sisters, Jane Jenkins and Mary Johnston.
Ruth is survived by her stepdaughter, Dorothy L. (Richard) Barker of Pekin. She also leaves her two cousins, Virginia Patch of Minier and June Barra of Hammond, La.
She formerly worked as a sales clerk with the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Harrisburg on the square. She also had worked as a bookkeeper in Harrisburg at a local grain elevator. She last worked for many years as a clerk at Jackson's Drug Store in Harrisburg, retiring at age 70.
Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg.
She was a member of the Pekin Women's Club and Kings Daughters. She also was a former member of the Pekin Christian Woman's Club.
Her funeral will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dwight E. Borden will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008, at Sunset Gardens in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Judith K. Beyler officiating.
