Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, Jan. 12, 2008: Oxford - Joe J. Bennett, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at his home near Oxford. He was the president and owner of Joe Bennett Construction Company for 33 years until his retirement in 1998. He belonged to the original Civitan Club, was a member and an inactive deacon at the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, a former member at North Oxford Baptist Church, and a member of the Mississippi Road Builders. He was a charter member of Associate Builders and Contractors (AB C) while in business.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Hope and Bro. John Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Abbeville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Betty M. Bennett; three sons, Michael Wayne Bennett and David Brian Bennett, both of Oxford, and Ronald Glenn Bennett of Independence; three daughters, Debra Ann Bennett of Southaven, Sandra B. Jackson of Abbeville and Tracy B. Coleman of Oxford; two brothers, James E. "Ed" Bennett and Clinton Bennett, both of Oxford; one sister, Ruby McLarty of Oxford; eight grandsons; four granddaughters; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
