Obituary for my Great Grandmother

Mrs. J.E. Dowd died at the home of Mrs. W.M. Kellar on Jefferson Street last Sunday morning at 2:00 o'clock. Mrs. Dowd was born in Peoria, Illinois, in 1850, emigrating to O'Neill, Nebraska where she married Mr. J.E. Dowd in 1886. In the year 1896 the family moved to Bradentown, and have resided here for twenty three years. Mrs. Dowd is survived by her husband and two son's, Alvin and Lawrence. Sergeant Lawrence Dowd is serving at present in the A.E.F. in France and has been absent from Bradentown since America entered the war. Alvin, who resides in Miami, returned here before his mother passed away and remained for the funeral which was held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, services being conducted by Rev. J. H. Patterson, of the Presbyterian Church, at the home of Mrs. Kellar and also at the Fogartyville cemetery. A great many friends gathered to pay a last tribute to the memory of the deceased.

Mrs. Dowd leaves many friends who mourn her death. Being of a quiet and retiring disposition she won her way into many hearts by her beautiful and upright character. The friends of Mr. Dowd and family extend to them their heartfelt sympathy in their sorrow and loss.
