Donald Rudland, 87, Flaxton, ND, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Donald Duane Rudland was born August 21, 1935, the son of Belvin and Agnes (Sjoquist) Rudland, in Eckman, North Dakota. He was raised in the Glenburn farming community and graduated from Glenburn High School.
On November 20, 1955, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Bergstad in Eckman, ND. The couple made their home in Eckman and in 1956, moved to Forfar, ND, where he managed the Forfar elevator. In 1965, they moved to Tolley, ND, where Donald managed the Tolley elevator. Donald and Mary Ann purchased the Country Boy Truck Stop in Bowbells, ND, in 1976, which they owned and operated until 1986. During this time, Don began managing production facilities for various oil company well sites. After selling the truck stop, they moved to Flaxton where he continued working in the oil production. Don and Mary Ann later ran the Portal Hotel for a short period of time before moving back to Flaxton where Don would work for the city in maintenance and was on the city council. Mary Ann passed away in 2016. Don continued managing production of oil facilities until his retirement.
Donald loved to spend time with his family and giving freeze pops to all the little children. He enjoyed his horses and owned many throughout his lifetime. On many occasions, Don would receive horses that were too sick to be sold at auction and nurse them back to health so they could be sold again. Don enjoyed going to auction sales and rodeos. You could often find Don mowing lawns or moving snow throughout Flaxton.
His loving family includes: sons, Duane Rudland, Washburn, Ronnie (Penny) Rudland, Powers Lake; daughters, Sharlene Schuhrke, Belfield, Dawn Marie (Lance) Roness, Minot, Donna Hebert, Ruthville; brother, Robert (Carol) Rudland, Minot; 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
