Marion "Skip" Meeker age 81, of Hedrick passed away April 1, 2008, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born Feb. 14, 1927 in rural Martinsburg, the son of Albert and Malissa Larimore Meeker. He was raised by Dick and Olive Meeker Puder, due to his parents' death.

He graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1944, and body and fender school in Chicago. Skip served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II, stationed in Germany and Switzerland until 1946.

He was united in marriage to Florine Rigler Jan. 26, 1950 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He lived in Martinsburg until 1962 when he moved to Hedrick.During his life he was employed at Sanchez Garage in Martinsburg, John Morrell and Company for 27 years in the ham line and as an electrician, Wausau Homes for seven years in the maintenance department and Everco for 11 years in maintenance and as an electrician until his retirement.

He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post #83 in Hedrick, Fraternal Order of Eagles, coached Hedrick Little League, and was a Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Tim) Deegan of Hedrick and Judy (Mike) Meeker Murphy of Missouri; 14 grandchildren, Dawn (Ron) Wheeler, Brian Souer, Will Souer, Laura Souer, Jennifer (Darrin) Yilek, Patricia (Jay) Bown, Kristen Meeker, Katelyn Meeker, Nick, Alyssa and Shelby Deegan, Marcus and Maleya Meeker-Murphy; a stepgranddaughter, Holly Kauffman; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander Bown and Marsha Wheeler White; two sons-in-law, Wayne and Ken Souer; and two daughters-in-law, Kathy Meeker and Angela Meeker-Baetsle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florine; two sons, John and Wesley Meeker; and two daughters, Lonna Souer and Wanda Souer; a granddaughter, Mikkala Renee Meeker; a sister, W. "Olive" Puder; three brothers, J. "Allen" Meeker, W.H. "Red" Meeker and R. "Donald" Meeker.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg, with Rev. Bill Hornback officiating.

Interment will follow with full military honors provided by Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs American Legion Post #83 of the Hedrick.
