Imogene "Jean" Caven 95, of Piqua, left this world to live in Gods Rose Garden on July 25th, 2023 at 2:50 am in the comfort of her home. She was born Imogene Wight, to Pearl Blanche (Fagan) and Don Carlos Wight, on February 22, 1928 in Piqua, Ohio. She had four brothers, Carlos Wight, Bill Wight, Jerry Wight, and Howard Phillips, and three sisters Neva Perkins, Juanita Yaney, and Donna Groff, who are all deceased. One sister-in-law, Ann Wight of Covington survives.
Jean and her husband Ralph were married October 30, 1954, in Piqua. They shared a marriage that would span 64 years. Together they raised three children: Gail Hinkle of San Antonio, Texas, Terry Caven (Rebecca) of San Antonio, Texas, and Kristi (Greg) Curtis, of Piqua. She had 8 grandchildren, Kurtis Hinkle,(Helen), Carrie Bandy(Justin),Matthew and Jared Curtis, Sophie Rockbell, Nicholas, Alec, and Claire Caven; and 7 great grandchildren, Hailee and Heidi Hinkle, Addyson and Brooklynn Andrews, Katelynn and Evan Curtis, and Emmett Denenberg-Curtis.
Jean worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Piqua Memorial Hospital, opening the Stress Test Department, and for Dr Gerard Wolf for many years. She did private duty home-care nursing at the end of her career, from which she retired in 1992. She had a very satisfying nursing career, touching the lives of many families in the Piqua area. She belonged to The American Business Women's Association and volunteered for her children's school functions. She enjoyed making paper tole pictures and her family will always treasure these. She enjoyed playing cards, and she taught some of her grandchildren to play, but in her later years when her eyesight was failing, her granddaughter Helen found low vision playing cards, and she was able to continue playing 500 Rummy. We have great memories of all her family playing with her. She also enjoyed reading and going anywhere there was a sale. She enjoyed time with family, spending winters in Florida and Texas for many years with her husband. After Ralph's death in 2019 she spent more time in Texas to be near family. She loved to be outside taking long walks with her husband and working in her Rose gardens. She nurtured and loved her roses of which she had many colors and varieties. She attended the Valley church in Piqua from its inception, until the death of her husband in 2019. Jean had a quiet faith and had a favorite saying when times were tough. ''God never promised us a rose garden". She memorized and recited the 23rd Psalm near the end of her life, which brought her comfort. She had a personal friend and pastor, Lincoln Robinson, who visited her many times. She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, who would always listen and share words of wisdom and encouragement. She was very positive and never gave up though she had numerous health issues that most people would find difficult to endure. We will miss you forever mom, but we know when you joined dad in heaven, you found Gods rose garden and all that He promised you. We know you are enjoying a hot cup of coffee there.
