GREAT VALLEY - Marlene Eddy, 91, of Great Valley, died Tuesday (July 19, 2023) at Olean General Hospital, following a short illness.

Born April 11, 1932, in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mildred Sinclair Nelson. She was married in 1951 to Neal R. Eddy, who predeceased her in 2014.

She was a graduate of West Valley High School, Class of 1948.

Marlene had co-owned the former Eddy's Restaurant, Great Valley, with her late husband, for over 30 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren; traveling with her late husband; and wintering in Bonita Springs, Fla. She was an avid baseball fan, following the Cleveland Guardians.

She attended Al-Anon for over 50 years, and was a huge inspiration to many of the people there. She rarely spoke at meetings, but when she did, everyone listened intently. She had that rare gift of truly listening to others.

Her wisdom, compassion and humor will be a cherished memory for all who knew her.

Surviving are a son, Lynn (Tammy) Eddy of Great Valley; two daughters, Marilyn (Dennis) Siperek of Great Valley and Jean (Thomas) Woodarek of Penfield; seven grandchildren, Anthony Galante, Patrick (Fallon Snyder) Galante, Jenna (Brian McGraw), Marla and John (Althea) Woodarek, Cameron and Brooke Eddy; seven great-grandchildren, Tayoni, Myla, Anthony, Luca, Naveya and Tavani Galante, and Ira Snyder; a sister, Karen (Fran) Stauffer of Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Dean Nelson.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (July 25, 2023) and from from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday (July 26, 2023) at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, at which time funeral services will be held, with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley.
