Helen Rose Wardle, 97, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Signature Healthcare in Terre Haute, IN. She was born to Denver Curtis Martin and Grace Golden (McKee) Martin on March 2, 1926.

She graduated from Garfield High School in 1944, and Indiana Teachers College in 1949. She worked at the Schultz Dept. Store while in high school, the Vigo County Clerk's Office at the courthouse while attending lSU, Vigo County Public Welfare as a caseworker, and the supervisor for the Food Stamp Division until she retired in 1992.

She married Charles Hellman Wardle on September 28, 1947, at the Maple Avenue Christian Church, and they were married for 63 years.

Helen was a lifelong member of Maple Avenue Christian Church which became Maplewood Christian Church and then Maryland Community Church where she attended until her health declined. She taught Sunday school classes, was the superintendent for the nursery for 32 years, and volunteered cooking for the SONshine Center for 26 years until it closed. She loved weeding her flower beds, cutting grass, working on 4-H projects with her children and then grandchildren, traveling with Dad and the CIB class for fun adventures, and cooking at the SONshine Center for senior citizens. She also enjoyed spending time with her good friend, Marcella, and then they'd turn around and talk on the phone for hours. She looked forward to all the cute cards Sallie would send her while she was sick that made her smile, and the many visits Donna Kay made to spend time with her and talk about old times. She truly had very good friends.

Survivors include her son, Charles D. Wardle (Trudy) of St. Charles, MO; their daughter, Casi (Kevin) and their two daughters, Beverly and Audrey of Brighton, CO; a son, Charles A. Wardle (Julee) and their daughters, Llllyanne and lsabelle, and son, Charleson of St. Charles, MO; a daughter, Carol (David) Barton of Clinton, IN; and their three children, Craig (Jessica), and their daughters Eleanor and Harriett of Washington, DC.; Chad (Hannah) Barton of Madison, AL; and Cori Barton of Clinton, IN; and her youngest daughter, Cathy Wardle of Danville, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away October 30, 2010, her parents, a sister Cora Marie, and her two half-sisters Lucille Martin and Ruth Heramb.

Per Helen's orders, there will be no visitation or services held for her. She chose cremation and will be buried at Fairview Cemetery in Linton IN. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th St., Terre Haute IN 47804, was entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Hope House, 2032 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, IN 47804.
