FISHERS — Edmund Wallis Riedweg of Fishers, Indiana, peacefully passed away in his home on Sunday evening, March 30th, at age 84.

He was born February 12, 1924, in Indianapolis to Ed and Emma Riedweg. He attended St Paul's Lutheran School, Manual High School in Indianapolis and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University in 1949. On April 4, 1948, he married Esther Harms from Pleasant Plains, Illinois.

He enlisted in the Army in February 1943, and was commissioned as an officer in 1945. Eighteen months of his service were overseas during WWII, and he was honorably discharged in 1946 as 1st Lieutenant with the 1st Division Infantry. Throughout his life, he was incredibly generous in serving his family, community, and country. As a young boy he took on a paper route to help support his family during the Depression, and he also supported himself through college.

During his 40 years in Bloomington, he was quite active in United Way, United Fund, Junior Achievement, IU Education Enrichment, as well as Faith Lutheran Church, where he was a member. After he and his wife moved to Fishers in 2005, they joined Advent Lutheran Church in Zionsville.

His professional career was one of 35 years with RCA. He joined RCA briefly in 1946 and then again in 1949 as Plant Layout & Construction Engineer and in 1952 was promoted to Manager, Plants and Engineering Services. From 1953 to 1960, he was plant engineer for RCA's Cambridge, Ohio, operation and from 1960-1964 was general plant engineer for RCA Victor Home Instruments and was responsible for supervising construction, maintenance and other plant engineering activities at the RCA Victor Consumer Products plants in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Monticello, IN, and Cambridge, OH. In 1964, he was appointed Plant Manager of RCA's Monticello, IN, plant and in 1966 was named Plant Manager of RCA Bloomington, from where he retired in 1983.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther; his 3 daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Riedweg of Zionsville, Janet and John Bergman of Fishers and Susan Riedweg of Indianapolis; along with his 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew) Zickler, Evan Bergman, Jean Paul Riedweg Rouas, and Emma Bergman. His first great-grandchild will be born in June. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Marian Woempner. His sister, Helen Godby, resides in Indianapolis, as well as 2 brothers-in-law and various nieces and nephews. We will all remember his wisdom, humility, and his deep commitment to God, family, community, and country.

Calling will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home, 3000 E. Third St., in Bloomington on Thursday, April 3. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2200 S. High St. in Bloomington at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Committal will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington immediately following the service.
