W.J. was born April 6, 1926, in Dixons Mills to parents Howard Green Barr and Eva Dixon Barr. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Franklin Barr; sister, Elsie Warren (Robert); and grandson, Adam C. McDaniel.
He is survived by three sons and a daughter; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1944 and served over two years, achieving the rank of Seaman Second Class. While serving on board the USS George Clymer (APA-27), he took part in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa, earning the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one bronze star and the World War II Victory Medal.
He owned and operated Barr Auto Parts for 38 years and was active in working with several rural churches.
The family gives special recognition to Dr. Avi Nichani, Mary Hunter, Rick Humphries, Florea Sansing, Sharon Prude, and Roger Griffin.
