W. G. H. Core died at the age of 72 years. He had long been a prominent business man in Pleasants County. He was a member of the State Constitutional Convention of 1872 and represented Pleasants one term in the Legislature. It is reported that, taking offense at some act of the town council, he purchased a tract of land just below the Vancluse Narrows, with the intention of founding a town there that should rival Saint Marys. He built the house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Goetgeluck, caused several dwellings to be erected nearby, including general store, and constructed a stone wharf along the river. He called the embryo town Forest City, and the locality is yet known by that name.
