Alonzo Barrick Core was born on May 2, 1855 in St. Marys, Pleasants County, (W) Virginia to William George Henry and Adelia Cordelia (Barrick) Core. His father ran a general mercantile, and as a young man Alonzo helped his father in the store.
On March 25, 1879, Alonzo married Annie May Bier in St. Marys. Annie was the daughter of William Elliot and Chloe L(Reynolds) Bier, and a native of Washington County, OH. Together they raised seven children (having had three more die young) and lived out their lives in Pleasants County, first running the general mercantile store, and then in later years working as the County Recorder. They retired to a farm in rural Saint Marys.
