She was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Jesse L. and Jean Helen (Caldwell) Petefish. She married Albert H. Yancy on June 6, 1948, at Berea Christian Church in rural Morgan County, and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2018.
She is survived by three children, Marsha Yancy (husband, John Finn), Charlotte Skinner and Carl Yancy (wife, Michelle); four grandchildren, Daniel Skinner, Jonathan Skinner, Eryn Yancy and Jacob Yancy; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou Newell (deceased husband, Bob); and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Jean Ella Yancy; one sister, Sara Allen; and two brothers, Ward Petefish and Richard Petefish.
Mrs. Yancy worked for Hexter Department Store in Ashland from 1985 to 1998. She was a member of Berea Christian Church and the Ashland Woman's Club. She was also a dedicated 4-H and Brownie Girl Scout leader.
The family will host a memorial service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Berea Christian Church, south of Prentice. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Ashland Cemetery.
