James was married Dec. 27, 1919 in Des Moines,Iowa to Ada May Lewis. Their children are Arthur,Helen,Glen,Kenneth and Ruth. He was a veteran of World War 1. His and Ada's grave location is in Sec. Love, location 80, graves 3&4.

James died of emphysema at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He lived most of his life in Des Moines, but resided in Bellflower, CA from 1950 to 1970 before returning to Des Moines.

He was a retired steele company machine operator and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 738.

Survivors other than his wife and children are a brother, Charles W. Riddle of Des Moines; sister, Mrs. Sadie Mayse of Richmond, CA; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
