Duane was born in 1932 to Alma and Lawrence Schierbecker in Centralia, IL, one of three children. His older sister Bernice passed away in 2018. His younger sister JoAnn and his parents both precede Duane in death.

Duane met and fell in love with Lilian Gess while serving his country during the Korean War in England. They married in 1953 and stayed happily married for 54 years until Duane's passing. They had three children together: Larry, Tina, and Mark and welcomed two grandchildren: Sarah and Andrew, daughter-in-law Vickie, and son-in-law Ed into the family with love and affection.

My dad loved his wife, his children and grandchildren, his country, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all his heart and soul. He loved to laugh, sing, play with the family dog, and eat chocolate. He loved life and was a very kind and gentle man.

He fought hard his last year of life and while we will miss him terribly, we are proud and happy for dad because he now is with the angels. He has one arm around him mom and the other around his little sister. He is talking to his dad, joking with his brother in laws Art and Ed, and enjoying his new beautiful life. Finally, his suffering has now ended.

Rest easy daddy, we love you, we'll never forget you, and one day soon, we will be together again in heaven for our own sweet reunion. His wife Lilian (known as Jill to the family) joined Duane in heaven on July 13, 2014, after passing away at the home she shared with her youngest son Mark. She was 83. Both Duane and Lilian were cremated, and the ashes given to the family.
