The family of James Michael "Mike" McArron is sad to announce that he suddenly passed away on August 6th after a truly short illness. Mike was born on May 8, 1948, in San Francisco, to Margaret Newman, and adopted shortly after his birth by James and Louise McArron of McCloud.

A lifelong resident of Siskiyou County, Mike graduated from McCloud High School in 1965. He loved music and the outdoors—exploring the vast forests and fishing the beautiful lakes and rivers of Siskiyou County—and spending time with his family.

Mike had an incredible laugh that could be heard for miles around. He was immensely creative and would build anything and everything from nothing. As a life-long logger, he was still out chopping wood in the days before his passing.

He was an exuberant lover of all styles of music, especially Country and the Blues. He spent many Saturday afternoons in front of his raging sound system and traveled all over Northern California and Oregon to rock out at concerts. His favorite performers were John Prine and Merle Haggard.

Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ellen; his daughter Vanessa Burger and her husband, Aaron, of Crescent City; his stepdaughter Lailoni (nee Duarte), and husband Frank Zeccola of Hayward; his stepson Todd Duarte and wife Pamela Price of Dunsmuir; and seven grandchildren that he loved very much: (Little) Aaron Burger, Brodie Burger, Gregory Duarte, Stephen Duarte, Alex Duarte, Sylvia Duarte, and Kristopher Wolfe.

He is also survived by his nephew Paul McArron and wife, Yvette, of Garden Grove, cousins Pat McArron of San Diego, Patsy Chilson of Redding and Mexico, Kathy Chilson of Mt. Shasta, and Susan Sarti of Winchester, OR.

Mike is preceded in death by his birth mother Margaret Newman, his adoptive parents James and Louise McArron, stepfather Bob Marshall, and adopted sister Karen.

His passing leaves a huge hole—anyone who knew Mike knows his personality was as big and boisterous as his laugh. He left us how he lived: fast and on his own terms.

Mike will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Life is planned for October 14th, 2023 at 4:00 pm in the Dunsmuir Park Community Building, Dunsmuir, CA.
