James Kyle, Jr., Fayetteville's last volunteer firefighter
James Hamilton Kyle Jr., of Fayetteville, died Aug. 6, 2002 in his home. He was 79.
Mr. Kyle was a former president of Kyle Roofing Co. He served on the board of trustees Firemen's Relief Fund and was the last survivor of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Kyle was a member of the North Carolina Fireman's Association for 50 years, the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club and St. John's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry. He was an avid fire equipment and memorabilia collector and had donated his collection to the Fayetteville Fire Department Museum
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev James E. Taylor. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Mr. Kyle is survived by a son, James H. Kyle III, of Fayetteville; a daughter Anita K Hensley of Fayetteville; a brother Thomas B Kyle of Stalbridge, England; a sister, Anne K McIntyre of Spartanburg, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Fire Department Benevolent Fund, 433 Hay St., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
