Sylvia Dorothes Elizabeth Rickert Engelhardt was born Feb. 17, 1913 in Cox Creek twp. near Strawberry Point, Iowa, to parents George and Sophia Possehl Rickert. She was baptized Sept. 28, 1913 and confirmed April 27, 1927 in Elkader in the Lutheran faith. She received her education in Cox Creek country school and Elkader school system.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and circle. She taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed writing stories and poetry and took various correspondence courses.
On November 24, 1938 she married Alvin Robert Engelhardt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. They had 2 daughters. The couple farmed southeast of Monona for many years. They retired from farming and moved to Monona in 1982.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Alvin, who died Feb. 25, 1982.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Fedora Engelhardt of Minneapolis, MN and Esther Wonderlich of Mt. Pleasant, 2 grandchildren, one brother, Gerald Rickert of Maquoketa and one sister, Gladys Wepler of Decorah.
Pallbearers were: Lloyd Russell, Robert Kiesau, Ron Blumhagen, Robert Marovets, Paul Kilcher and Douglas Baade.
Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Monona with Schultz's Funeral Home in charge of service.
