HUETER, PATRICIA HANNETT PATRICIA HANNETT HUETER August 24, 2013 Patricia Hannett Hueter (Patty, Tippy), a beautiful, gracious and greatly loved lady, passed away gently in her home on August 24. Patricia, the middle of five children, was born in 1924 in Gallup, NM to James Wallace Hannett, MD and Clare Marie McMullen Hannett. Her father, Dr. Hannett and his brother, A.T. Hannett (who later became Governor of New Mexico), moved from upstate New York to Gallup in the 1910s to pursue their medical and legal careers. Dr. and Mrs. Hannett moved to Albuquerque in 1929 when Dr. Hannett became chief surgeon and chief of staff at Presbyterian Hospital. Patricia was raised in the family home, the historic Monkbridge Manor, and graduated from Sandia Girls School (later Sandia Preparatory School). She graduated from The University of New Mexico where she held leadership positions including President of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. While in college, she traveled to New Mexico Military Institute to visit her brother and met her future husband, John M. Hueter, from San Francisco. They had an exceptionally loving, fun and adventurous marriage for 54 years until John passed away in 1999. They raised three daughters, enriching their lives through great experiences as a family - travel, camping, sailing and their cherished annual Christmas trips to Mexico's Sea of Cortez. They did all this with boundless energy and enthusiasm for their five grandchildren as well. Patty was highly respected in the community as a volunteer leader and fundraiser. She served on many boards and committees rising to the level of President of Junior League of Albuquerque; President of Sandia Preparatory School Board of Trustees; and President of Girl Scouts of New Mexico during which time she oversaw the creation and construction of Rancho del Chaparral Girl Scout Camp near Cuba, NM. She was a great lover of classical music, and chaired the most successful annual fundraising campaign of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra at that time. She was also an avid United Way supporter and chaired the Business, Legal, and Individual Gifts divisions of several campaigns. She was a Charter Member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque and was happily competitive with her ladies' foursome for over 30 years. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels; a member of PEO Chapter E; and a member of the YaYa Book Club. Among the many accolades Patricia received during her volunteer career was the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Services and Volunteer of the Year presented to her by the governor in 1984. However, most important to her during her life was the time spent with her family, her selfless devotion to each of them, and her unconditional love. She was duly loved by many friends and was a favorite among her children's friends. Patricia was endowed with the natural gifts of compassion, humility, joyfulness, humor and wit, inherent strength and wisdom, and a richness of spirit. Patricia was predeceased by her husband, John, and siblings Jane, Betty, and A.T. Hannett II. She is survived by her devoted family - daughters Ann Hueter Cape (Charlie), Laura Hueter Bass (Stephen) and Jane Hueter-Moody (the late Stephen); loving grandchildren, Justine Bass Hines, Sarah Moody Allen, Andrew Moody, Meredith Myers Perez and Melissa Myers: five great grandchildren with twins on the way; her beloved sister Mary (Sissy) Hannett Voller and sister-in-law Joan Hueter; nieces and nephews John and Marie Voller, Ernie and Kristin Hueter, Janett and Emily Rice. In addition to the organizations important to Patricia listed above, memorial contributions may be made to UNM Foundation, Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, the Hueter Bass charitable endowment at Albuquerque Community Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Family gatherings will be held to joyously remember and celebrate Patricia's wonderful life. Have a peaceful journey, Mom, to join your loving husband and let your beautiful spirit soar.
