She grew up in both Humboldt, Tennessee, and Cleveland, Ohio, where she attended Myron T. Herrick Junior High School.
After her family moved back to Tennessee, she eventually met the love of her life, Dwain McCartney. They were married in 1957 in Humboldt, and raised their children there until 1969 when they relocated to near Bradford, Tennessee, also in Gibson County.
Sara became a grandmother in 1983 and had four grandchildren. She was a devoted housewife, homemaker, and The World's Best Babysitter.
She was a Christian, and eventually joined Belews Chapel Church.
Sara had been in declining health for the last several years of her life, and passed away at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after suffering from a fall a few days before.
Sara will always be remembered for her beauty both inside and out, her devotion to her family, and her huge heart and capacity to love others.
