John B.Graf a longtime resident of Needham died on Friday April 4th 2008 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hosital in Needham at the age of 83. John was born on October 24th, 1924 to Hans and Florence Graf in Ridley Park, PA. He joined his older sister, Marie. Sadly Marie Lee recently passed away. Twelve years later he welcomed the birth of his baby sister, Elizabeth. Betty and her husband Jim divide their time between West Yarmouth and St. James City, FL. His family moved to Newton Upper Falls when he was very young and this is where he grew up. John graduated from Newton Technical High School. After a short time working at the Quincy Shipyards he began his career at Raytheon. He Started as an electrician and moved up through the ranks of management. He was a member of the Raytheon Quarter Century Club. He retired after 44 years on the job in 1987.

John married the girl next door, Mildred Hurd in 1951 and they bought their first home in Needham where he would live his entire life. Their first born is Nancy, who now resides in Mansfield. Two and a half years later Linda joined the family. Linda is married to Jeff Sullivan, they live in Woburn. And then came the light of his life, his grandchildren. First, Daniel Graf Sullivan, Danny who he watched grow into a fine young 18 year old man. Five years go by and then his granddaughter, Kathleen Rose Sullivan, Katie was born. He watched her become a lovely young lady of thirteen. Both John and Mildred play very active roles in their grandchildren's lives.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family. There were always Graf family get togethers with the best being Thanksgiving, as this was the largest. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, teasing and joking with them.

John and Mildred have a wide circle of friends and neighbors. Many of their friends are part of what was a yearly vacation in Dennisport, MA.

He loved to travel and he was the researcher for most the trips. His dream trip was to travel to Switzerland where his father was born. John, Mildred, Nancy and Linda made that trip in 1982. They traveled to the town that his family had immigrated from in 1913 and learned about some of their family history. John, Mildred and Nancy went back four more times traveling throughout the country. John and Mildred have traveled to many countries and within the United States, but Switzerland remains their favorite destination.
