Joy Beth Payne was born on March 10, 1927 in Hartman, AR to Josiah and Mary Pennington McCurley. She was a lifetime area resident and had attended the University of Arkansas. She was a retired librarian at Springdale Public Library and a member of PEO and Mount Comfort Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. Payne and Jute Piebenga and sons Gary and Kevin Payne. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Ann Payne of Springdale, AR; granddaughter Stefanie Payne of Springdale, AR; step-daughter Jan Hargis and husband Ken of Bentonville, AR; step-son Larry Piebenga and wife Betsy of Kansas City, MO; three sisters, Verna Long of Joplin, MO; Mary Jo Harris of Fayetteville, AR; and Cliffie Nalley and her husband Jim of Tahlequah, OK and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Springdale with Ken Hargis and Bob Mayes officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 315 Holcomb St., Springdale, AR 72764.
