Shirley Sue Ogle

Sue Ogle, born Shirley Sue McConnell on the 4th of July, 1937 in Sequoyah County Oklahoma, was called home by her Lord and Savior in the early hours of August 11th, 2023 in Bethany, Oklahoma in the home of her daughter, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Creager and Cora Mae McConnell, two brothers, Wayne and Jerry McConnel, husband Mel Ogle, and great-grandson Memphis Cory.
A graduate of Muldrow High School, during her senior year, Sue met a dashing young Air Force cadet from neighboring Sallisaw named Glenn W. Mayfield, and after a whirlwind courtship, the two eloped along with their two closest friends, and married on Christmas Eve 1954. After being briefly stationed in Shreveport, LA the two soon returned to Oklahoma where they owned and operated several barber shops and beauty salons in the OKC area. Sue successfully ran the Penn Hefner Beauty salon for more than 20 years, and was a regular parishioner at Lakeview Park Nazarene Church, where she taught children's Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School. Sue was an avid bridge player, water skier, loved to read, and enjoyed writing short stories for herself and her girls, although she was too shy to submit any for publication. Sue retired to Eufaula, OK, and after her second marriage to Melvin L Ogle in 1997, the two wrote and recorded an original song, Jason's Storm, about a soldier in the Iraq War. Sue and Mel were married until his death in 2012. She continued her service to the Lord in various capacities through Forest Hill Christian Church and then One Church in Bethany, Oklahoma, primarily focusing on teaching children, as long as she was physically able.
Sue is survived by and will be held in the hearts of her daughters, Glenna Forristall (Jim Parker), Rhonda Cory (Chris Cory), granddaughters Tara Cory, Laura Cory, and Ashleigh Forristall, and great-grandchildren Dominic, Carleigh, Presley, Noah, Layla, and Hope.
