James M. Hendricks, age 94, entered eternal life on August 15th, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. James was born on December 14th, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the second of four children to parents Marie (Wheeler) and Louis Hendricks.

He attended St. Benedict's Catholic Elementary school graduating in 1942, then Lane Technical High School, graduating in 1946 after which he attended Northwestern University for one year when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While in the USMC he was deployed to Israel as a member of the United Nations Peace Keeping Mission and was stationed near Jerusalem. His assignment there included observing and reporting shelling by the Jewish army upon the Arabs and vice versa. This occurred in 1948 after Israel became a separate nation. Other deployments included the island of Vieques near Puerto Rico where his engineering unit built an airfield from coral prior to a landing expedition on the island. During his three years in the USMC he progressed from private to sergeant.

Shortly after his discharge from the USMC he moved to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, took an apprenticeship as a tool and diemaker at Mirro Aluminum Company and married the love of his life, Julia Jorgensen on September 9, 1950. They had three daughters, Lynn, Sherryl and Kathleen. During this time, James joined the Army Reserve 377th Light Maintenance Company and quickly progressed to become a commissioned officer as a 2nd Lieutenant, then 1st Lieutenant, Captain and ultimately Major. He was appointed commander of the 377th which was deployed to Viet Nam in 1969. Before he retired, James was awarded the Bronze Star in October of 1969. He officially retired from military service February of 1988. Upon returning to the United States, he resumed his position as Contract Sales Manager at Mirro and then OEM Sales Manager at Vollrath Company, Sheboygan, WI until his retirement.

He served on the Manitowoc County Board from 1972 to 1982 first as District 8 Supervisor and concluded as Manitowoc County Board Chairman.

James is survived by his dog, Abby, three daughters: Lynn Scheinoha and her significant other Kurt Engeldinger; Sherry (Kevin) Schmitt; and Kathleen (Gary) Kennedy. Jim loved his eight grandchildren, Chad (Jenny) Scheinoha; Benjamin (Kayce) Schmitt; Patrick (Jenifer) Schmitt; James Scheinoha (fiancé Michelle Mangel); Ryan (Allison) Schmitt; Zachary (Michelle) Kennedy; and Jordan (Lindsey) Kennedy. Jim cherished visits and activities with his twelve great-grandchildren, Gracee and Katie Scheinoha; Mason, Carson and Addison Downs; Sydney and Joseph Schmitt; Nolan and Miles Schmitt; Quinn and Dylan Kennedy and Autumn Kennedy. Jim is further survived by his brother, Patrick and sister Colleen Gorski and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie (Wheeler) Hendricks; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Nellie (Duzeski) Jorgensen; a brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Virginia Hendricks; sister-in-law Irene Hendricks; brother-in-law, Ted Gorski; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerome and Joanne Jorgensen; son-in-law Jerome Scheinoha; his only granddaughter, Caryn Scheinoha and many aunts and uncles.

Jim enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his summer home, in Door County, and later, their winter home in Fort Myers, Florida. Jim is fondly remembered for sponsoring fishing trips to Canada with his son-in-laws and grandsons. He was both a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan an enjoyed friendly banter with friends and family, especially when they played the Packers.

Jim's family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Andrew Yetter, Dr. Qamaruddin Qazi, Dr. Carl DiRaimondo and Dr. Craig Olson, Amy Schleunes NP and the wonderful staff at Next Step Re-Hab of the Felician Village.
