Maggie grew up at Tip Top in a large family where she has plenty of company to play and roam the hills. The school, post office, commissary, and church were nearby and she loved to share memories of spending time in each of these places. Tip Top held a special meaning to Maggie and she chose to go back there to live out her life.
Maggie was a long-time member of the Tip Top Church where she worshiped until failing health prevented her from attending services. Maggie's husband Eugene was in the military when they married and they spent their first years living in military housing in Fort Knox. When Eugene retired from the U.S. Army they moved back to their beloved Magoffin County where they raised their family on Pine Ridge at Tip Top.
Maggie had a little dog, Peaches, who was her pride and joy. Peaches and Maggie would sit om the porch in the early dawn and watch the sun come up while Maggie Had her morning coffee. When Peaches got to heavy the vet advised her to feed him green beans! In fact, Debbie and Bill brought cases of green beans at Maggie's instructions! Soon Peaches got back to a more normal weight! The little dog remained a faithful companion until Maggie has to go to the nursing home.
Maggie loved walking, picking blackberries, attending church, and having her children, and grandchildren, come for visits. They often would all go back in the hill and enjoy a cookout and watch the wild horses that roamed the area. Maggie was her happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren. She loves watching them run and play over the land that meant so much to her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 25, 2023 from the Tip Top United Baptist Church with Larry Williams and Tim Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mullins Cemetery on Pine Ridge, Kentucky.
