Albert was the son of Thomas M. Haley and Lydia McCartney . He married Jane Farrier (daughter of William Farrier and Catharine Horn). They had twelve children: Margaret Ann, Ella Mae, John Henry, Mary Elizabeth, Albert S. Jr., George W., Charles, Frank, William E., Ida Jane, Lillian Mae, Della M. After Jane's death, Albert married his second wife, Elizabeth Elliott, and they had three children: Walter Henry , Ellwood and Robert. Albert lived most of his life in the Delaware and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, areas. He was a Spinner by trade and worked in the woolen mills.
He enlisted in the Civil War as a Private in Company C, 109 Pennsylvania Infantry and was wounded on August 9, 1862, during the Battle at Cedar Mountain.
