Born in Barren County, he was the son of the late Charles Matthew Short and Lillian Sturgeon Short. Mr. Short was a farmer and a retired employee for the state of Kentucky as a light equipment operator.
Survivors include two daughters: Charlene Reece (Danny) of Glasgow and Betty Jo Short of Scottsville: two sons: Charles Madison Short Jr. (Lori) of Glasgow and Joseph Payton Short of Scottsville: three sisters: Mildred Cooksey of Tracy, Earlene Jordan of Fountain Run and Ailene Pedigo of Bowling Green. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Duvall, Dixie Mae Short and Willia Mae Short; two brothers, Hubert Short and Woodrow Short.
Burial was in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
