98, of Cumberland, Ohio, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Martha was born on July 30, 1909, in Clay, NY. She was the daughter of the late Anna and Fred Baxter. Martha attended Cortland Normal School; she worked at a sauerkraut factory for 10 years. She and her husband, Carl, ran a dairy farm for several years until they moved to Liverpool in 1985. Martha worshipped at Cumberland United Methodist Church while in the Cumberland area. Since moving with her son in September of 2001, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she sang in the choir for 80 years. She also sang in Clay senior choir. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley and David Stanley of Weedsport, NY; a son, Ronald and Sue Sotherden of Cumberland; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arlo Baxter of Brewerton, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Carl Sotherden, in 1996; a son, Carl Jr.; a daughter, Audrey; two sisters; and four brothers. The family will hold a graveside service on September 1 at 9 a.m.
