William W. Clabaugh Dies in Hospital Hour and a Half after Plunge

William W. Clabaugh, 930 West Center Street, died in St. Mary's Hospital Tuesday morning at 3:30 o'clock of injuries sustained when he fell down the elevator shaft in the plant of Decatur Milling Co., North Union Street Monday night at 12 o'clock. How Clabaugh happened to fall is not known for no one saw the accident and he never was conscious after he fell. He had been employed in the mill as a watchman and supposedly was familiar with all parts of the plant.
W.W. Clabaugh was born Oct. 28, 1857 in Columbus, OH. For the last 35 years he had been a resident of Decatur and for seventeen years was engaged in the dairy business here. He leaves his wife, formerly Margaret Wheeler of Decatur, to whom he was married Nov. 23, 1892. Also he leaves the following named children: Mrs. F. C. Stanley, Mrs. Osie Bottom, Mrs. Millard Gaffron and Miss Leota Clabaugh, all of Decatur; and Mrs. Fred Gaffron of Glenville, Minn. His descendants include 18 grandchildren. His brothers and sisters are Dr. S. Clabaugh, Gravity, Ia.; George Clabaugh, Nebraska; Hugh Clabaugh, Wynot, Neb.; Frank Clabaugh, Arvada, Wyo.; Arthur Clabaugh, New Market, Ia.; Mrs. William Leonard, Gravity, Ia.; Mrs. Ida Shepherd, Decatur, Mich. He was a member of Easterly Camp, 1626 Modern Woodmen Association and of the Second United Brethren Church.
The body was taken to the rooms of Brintlinger & Sons where it will remain until the hour of the funeral to be conducted at 8 o'clock Thursday afternoon in Second United Brethren church of which he was a member. Burial will be in Graceland.
