Wycliffe (Cliff) R. Knight, 83, of 130 W. Maple St., Gladwin, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Clare Nursing Home. Born in Bay City on November 12, 1896, he came to Gladwin County when he was 10 years old. He moved to Lansing in 1915 and worked at Reo Motors for 8 years and at Oldsmobile for 6. He was also a real estate salesman for 10 years. In 1939 he returned to Gladwin and operated Knight's Resort at Pratts Lake from 1945 to 1959. He then worked for Industrial Metals in Lansing until 1962. Mr. Knight was a member of the Gladwin County Sportsmen's Club, Tittabawassee Conservation League and the Gladwin Free Methodist Church. He also served terms on the Sage Township Board and the Chappel Dam School Board. Mr. Knight and the former Eithel Smith were married December 21, 1916, in Lansing. She preceded him in death in December 12, 1978, in Gladwin.
Surviving are one son, John, of Gladwin; one daughter, Mrs. George (Ruth) Wise of Big Rapids; 3 sisters, Mrs. Marie Bennett of Lansing, Mrs. Evangeline Todd of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Ruby Arkema of Grand Rapids; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Allen officiated and burial was in the Ridge Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 10-22/1980 Column – 3 Page – 2.
