Monroe Smith Blackwood, age 84, was born in Union Hill
(Union Co.) South Carolina, March 12, 1872, son of J.F. ( Frank) and Julia Cook Blackwood, natives of South Carolina. Mr. Blackwood came to Texas in 1901 and located near Honey Grove, Texas, in Fannin County, and later to Stephens County, where he met and married Miss Rebecca Jane Stouard of Breckenridhge. Four children were born to this union, one daughter and three sons. Two sons passed in infancy. The family came to the Sweetwater Community in 1920, where they lived the remainder of their married lives. Mrs Blackwood preceded her husband in death Feb 23, 1956, and since thatr time Mr Blackwood and his daughter Bell sold their farm and moved to Decatur. Mr Blackwood spent most of his later years farming. He was converfed when he was a young man in South Carolina and united with the Methodist Church in Mesopotomis ( Mesopotomia Methodist Church, Cherokee Co), South Carolina, and then with the Methodist Church at Sweetwater when he came to Wise County. He held his membership there until the church was disorganized, at which time he moved it to Allison. Three years ago he moved his membership to the First Methodist Church , Decatur, where he held his membership at the time of his death. He departed this life at his home in Decatur, Sunday, June 10, 1956, a 11:45 A.M. following an acute heart attack. He is survived by one son, Tom Blackwood of Houstan, Texas, and one daughter, Miss Bell Blackwood of Decatur, Texas one brother, G.L. Blackwood of Jamesville(Jonesville), South Caroline. Funeral services were held in the Sweetwater Church with the Rev. Raymond Corrigan, pstor of the First Metrhodist Church, Decatur and Dr. R.E. Bell of Decatur. Internment was in the Sweetwater Cemetery.
