Jerry Duane Abney, age 72 of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022. He was born January 24, 1950 in Purcell, OK to R.J. and Pearl Abney. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, and suffered greatly for this service. Jerry loved fast cars, and one in particular, his maroon '68 GTO. By chance, while dragging Main St. in Purcell, he noticed a young lady named Diane Mitchell who had just moved in from California. They were the perfect couple, and were later married on March 9, 1971 in Purcell. Together they raised a daughter, Susan. Jerry worked some in the oil field, but mainly for the Department of Transportation. He retired as a supervising engineer after more than 25 years of dedicated service. Away from work, Jerry was probably fishing or hunting. He enjoyed running beagles and flying pigeons, and hanging out with his fur baby Charlie. He cherished Diane, Susan, and was never happier than the day he became a PaPa to Joshua, Nicholas and Josie. Jerry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by: his parents, R.J. and Pearl Abney.

Jerry is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Diane of the home; daughter Susan Cain and husband Matt of Moore; sisters, Linda Hendricks and husband Ray of Blanchard and Nancy Herndon and husband Jeff of Pauls Valley; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Nicholas Smith and Josie Avery Cain; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
