Carl Ledford, age 76, of the Roaring Springs community, Trigg County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Born June 27, 1947, in Cadiz, Kentucky, he was the second-born son of the late Richard A. "Dick" Ledford and the late Mary Robertson Ledford.

He was a lifelong resident of the Roaring Springs community, where he spent his life day-in-and-out as a farmer, partnered with his brother, James Ray, as they tended their crops and livestock on Ledford Brothers Farms. Carl was a 1967 graduate of Trigg County High School. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1969 and sent to Vietnam as a trained armorer with the HHB 2/20 ARTY 1st CAV DIV. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star Medal for his service. After his discharge in 1971, he returned to the rolling fields of Roaring Springs and resumed life as usual, at that time farming alongside his father and brothers. He was married to his wife, Brenda, in 1974, and they continued to live and work on the family farm, raising their three children and eventually becoming "Poppy" to four grandchildren and two greats.

A lifelong member of Roaring Springs Christian Church, Carl served as a deacon and elder there for many years. Living in the community all his life, he saw the need to establish a volunteer fire department, becoming a charter member of the Roaring Springs VFD in 1976. He served as Fire Chief for many years, retiring in 2022.

Carl was quick-witted and always had a joke to share. He was passionate about a few things, but very passionate. He was an avid collector of vintage and antique tractors and had quite an array in his collection, John Deere only, please. And to say he was a fan of University of Kentucky basketball is an understatement. Some would say he bled blue. He also loved watching old episodes of Gunsmoke, declaring that he always wanted to go out west someday to see the sites he could only see on t.v. He finally made that trip just this year. He was hard to pull away from the farm, but when his family could convince him to come along on their vacations, he truly enjoyed the time spent with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Ledford; two siblings in infancy; and a nephew, Scott Duncan.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Ford Ledford of Roaring Springs; his children, Kelli Ledford Hooks of Roaring Springs, Jarrod Ledford of Nashville, Tenn., and Carla Ledford Choate (Wallace, Jr.) of Roaring Springs; four grandchildren, Alyssa Choate, Weslee Choate, Carson Choate, and Cullen Choate; two great-grandchildren, Quinlee Beach and Emmett Beach; three brothers, James Ray (Gay) Ledford and Tom (Suzanne) Ledford, both of Roaring Springs, and Steve Ledford (Ruth) of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two sisters, Dean (Terry) Duncan of Cadiz, Ky., and Mary Ann (Dennis) Krol of Frankfort, Ky., sister-in-law, Annie Ledford of Union City, Tenn; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, with Rev. Billy Joe Nichols and Rev. Ed Carl officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ledford Family Cemetery on the family farm in Roaring Springs.

Memorial contributions can be made to Roaring Springs Christian Church, c/o James Ray Ledford, 4320 Roaring Springs Road, Cadiz, KY 42211; or to the Ledford Family Cemetery, 8015 New Hope Road, Cadiz, KY 42211.
