Husband of Linda B. Hobbs.
CSM (Ret) Jessie Lee Hobbs, 83, of Columbus, GA died at St. Francis Hospital, Thursday, April 10, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Johnson officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. this evening at the funeral home. Mr. Hobbs was born August 30, 1924 in Bellminer, AL son of the late William P. Hobbs and Florence Willard Hobbs. He had retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service as a CSM. During his distinguished military career he served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam (two tours) earning the following commendations, Silver Heart, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge w/3 stars, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and numerous other commendations. After retiring from the U. S. Army, he began work and retired from Civil Service at Martin Army Hospital, Ft. Benning, GA. Mr. Hobbs was active in his church, Asbury UMC where he served on the Board of Trustees for many years. Mr. Hobbs was also a Mason and a Shriner. We will miss his strong character and wisdom, but his impact on our lives will never be forgotten. Mr. Hobbs was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and one son, David M. Hobbs. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Linda B. Hobbs of Columbus, GA; daughter, Cathy (Tom) Powers of Atlanta, GA; one son, John M. (Jamie) Hobbs of Waverly Hall, GA; granddaughters, Kelly (Barry) Wallis and Stacy (Ron) Monson all of Atlanta, GA, Robin, Ellen, and Maggie Hobbs all of Waverly Hall, GA; great-granddaughters, Morgan Monson, and Emma Wallis both of Atlanta, GA; several nieces, nephews and friends.
