"Oroville - A memorial service for Darrel I. Wimmer, 93, of Oroville will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Scheer Memorial Chapel.

Wimmer died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in his home.

Born Dec. 9, 1903, in Santa Maria, he had been an Oroville resident for 45 years.

He grew up in Paso Robles and graduated from Cal-Poly when it was a high school. He had worked and operated heavy equipment for 40 years, retiring in 1964.

Wimmer worked on the California Water Projects, including the Oroville Dam, and worked in Lompoc and other areas. He also worked for Tichert & Sons for 14 years. Wimmer owned a logging truck out of Quincy and was the engineer for the missile silos in Chico.

He was a 57-year member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 3, First Congregational Church, 50-year member of the Oroville Masonic Lodge 103 F&AM, Scottish Rite of Sacramento, Ben Ali Shrine of Sacramento, Oroville High Twelve, past president of the Lions Club and the Native Sons of the Golden West. He also volunteered driving cancer patients to and from Chico.

He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his daughter, Gail Norton of Sacramento; his companion Kay Richy; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Burial takes place at the Paso Robles Cemetery." END
