Born May 8, 1914, in Rockingham County, N.C., he was a son of the late John Pink Stone and Bessie Lee Cox Stone.
He was married to the late Jessie Irene Sigmon Stone, who died March 28, 1987.
He attended Schoolfield High School and retired from Dan River Mills roving department as a roving technician. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sons, Nelson Stone of Danville and Walter Stone of Conover, N.C.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Bobby Ray Stone.
