Lawrence D. O'Connell

STAATSBURG - Lawrence Daniel O'Connell, 84, a lifelong resident of Staatsburg, died peacefully at home on Monday, May 14, 2018 with his family by his side.
Born in Poughkeepsie on June 18, 1933; he was the so of the late Daniel O'Connell and Julia Helen Kielbiewki.
Of the Roman Catholic faith, Larry attended church at Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park.
Mr. O'Connell proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a pressman at the former Western Printing in Poughkeepsie for thirty-two years until the plant closed. After Western, he worked at several printing companies over the years including Hamilton Reproductions in Poughkeepsie.
Larry loved to tinker on things and could often be found fixing a neighbor's lawnmower or tractor.
On June 8, 1953 at Regina Coeli Church, he married Patricia O'Connell. His wife predeceased him on June 26, 2002.
Survivor's include his daughter, Marie Lane, and husband, Arthur, of Espous; son, Lawrence J. O'Connell and wife, Eileen, of Red Hook; six grandchildren, Lauren Cerulo and husband, Ralph, of Red Hook, Kerry Lane and fiancé, Julian Melendez, of Albany, Alex O'Connell of Red Hook, Brian Elmendorf and his wife, Ashley, of North Carolina, Corey O'Connell of Beijing, China, and Julia O'Connell and companion, Michael Biechler, of Hawaii; seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Jillian, Caleb, Riley, Tyler, Ethan, and Karen Abigail.
He is also survived by two close, dear friends, Carl Albertson and Louise Dingee.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Elmendorf in 1993, and brother Raymond O'Connell in 1954.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, May 16th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, May 17th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
In lieu of flowers, the O'Connell family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 (www.hvhospice.org).
