Herbert came to his parents late in their lives, when his mom was about 40 and his dad 46, and his sister Olive was 17 years older. He was born at 8 the evening before his wife Norma was born at 8 AM the next day, in the same hospital. Their parents were friends. Years later, they married March 21, 1953. Herbert passed of diabetes and heart issues just three weeks shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

I did not know Herbert personally, but garnered a bit about his life from his widow, Norma, with whom I once corresponded. He didn't make the newspapers too often, nor does he dominate the Internet, but what was there was colorful.

The Philadelphia Inquirer of 15 June 1951 reported Herbert, age 17, suffered head injuries when his motorcycle and a car collided. The Philadelphia Inquirer of 23 June 1955 covered the opening of new offices at 3 Penn Center for the New York Life Insurance Co., and he was listed as an agent in their Mayfair office at the corner of Bustleton and Roosevelt Boulevard.

In a social mention in the Pottstown Mercury of 4 June 1959, he was "Lt. Herbert L Ramey" and he and wife Norma went to NY and then hosted the same folks at their own PA home at 21 Florenz Avenue which was in Trappe. Subsequently, info was found suggesting he served in the National Guard about 1952-1958. In 1962, while a Collegeville resident, he served as a judge for the Delaware Valley Parachute Club's event at Limerick Airport, and in 1963 he was mentioned as the group's president.

In 1970, he was listed as President of Rambin Corporation (the parent company of Budget Finance of Baton Rouge). His address was the family home called "Farnuff Farms." 1973, he appeared in Mississippi's Sun Herald of Biloxi when "Budget Plan of Biloxi" was incorporated, and he (of Baton Rouge) was listed as one of four incorporators. The company's stated goals included money lending and insurance sales. In 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1997, he and his wife Norma and son David all appeared in the Radio Amateur Callbook . His listing showed as "KB5AC A Herbert L Ramey, Box 68 Farnuff Farms, Greenwell Springs LA."

And yet for these mentions, I'm sorry to say that no obituary has yet been found for him. The cemetery did confirm his burial.
