He is survived by his wife, Rhoda, his children and grandchildren, Julie with daughter Melinda, and Kevin with his daughters Olivia and Emma, and his beloved nieces, Jean, Katherine, and Polly, Anne and Lynn, and his "Little Brother" Peter Smith.

A long-time educator, joyful folk-dance instructor, and principal at Los Angeles institution Oakwood School, and as the founder of Los Encinos School, Chris delighted in teaching generations of children. Several of the teachers he mentored went on to create their own schools, spreading his philosophy across the nation. His passion for education included helping to create a pioneering clinic for adults with dyslexia to lift stigma and lives.

Raised in Chicago IL, the youngest child in a prominent architectural family, Christopher Holabird attended Francis W. Parker School and maintained lifelong friendships with his classmates. Chris took a break from Harvard when he was called away to serve near the end of World War II.

With advanced degrees spanning subjects from biology to education, Chris spent his later years traveling with Rhoda to all parts of the globe, quenching his insatiable curiosity by actively learning and debating in the Los Angeles Plato Society.

A lifelong birder and environmental enthusiast, he packed up the canoe and the field-glasses, and headed to June Lake all year-round to enjoy the outdoors and quiet time with Rhoda.

Starting in 1954, Chris made his home in Beverly Glen Canyon, where he met his wife Rhoda and raised his children. For decades Chris could be seen going up Beverly Glen with his carved walking stick, waving at passing cars, and enjoying the Glen community he loved. As founder of the Beverly Glen Faire, Chris would open the Faire each year playing bagpipes and leading a procession of preschoolers joyfully banging instruments.

Chris was predeceased by his parents, John Augur and Dorothy Hackett Holabird, his sister Jean and brother John Augur, Jr., and his niece Lisa, all of Chicago IL.
