The following was composed by Bill's family:

Thomas William "Bill" Clendening of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away on August 27, 2023 at his home. He was 70 years old. Bill, one of four sons of Mabel F. and George W. Clendening, was born on November 1, 1952.

The happiest moment of Bill's life was the day his daughter Emily came home from the hospital. Bill was a loving father and a wonderful Granddad to Dominic and Gabriel. He is also survived by his brothers, George, John and Jim, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loyal friend to many, particularly Carol Lee.

Bill was a graduate of Drexel University's LeBow School of Business. He was a successful business executive and salesman for several industrial paper companies. Later, he turned his hardworking attributes to a second career in auto sales.

Bill enjoyed sports, especially football. Bill played for his alma mater, Springfield High School. Number 71 was an important player on the line of scrimmage. He was also an enthusiastic golfer until his disabilities made walking the course difficult. Bill attributed his killer swing to his first job at the driving range in Flourtown. He was always the winner for the longest drive at the golf tournaments sponsored by the Philadelphia Paper and Cordage Association; an organization he served as president for two terms.

Bill had a passion for cooking. He enjoyed learning about Italian cuisine during his dream vacation to Rome, Naples and Pompeii. An accomplished chef, he could do anything from butchering to creating elegant patisserie. Many enjoyed his treats during the years he ran a bakery business specializing in cheesecakes and biscotti. He is also remembered for his sense of humor. He was a master of the pun -- both good and bad!
