Mary Francis Barton McFeely, 78, was welcomed into the loving arms of Our Lord on March 21, 2023, after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mary was a miracle baby born to her overjoyed parents, Francis and Mary Barton of Pensacola, FL, who were told that they could never have children. Mary met the love of her life, Thomas McFeely, in 1964 when he accidentally sat in her favorite spot at the NAS Pensacola Officer's Club pool. In no uncertain terms, she told him that was her spot, to which he replied "I don't see your name on it!" With that, a love affair spanning 6 decades was born. They married in 1965, began their Navy adventure, to find themselves stationed in FL, RI, CA, VA, MD, and HI, with their 3 children. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and Nana, leaving her loving husband of 57 years to cherish her memory, along with her children and 8 grandchildren. Mary was a religious educator and coordinator, a docent at the National Archives in Washington, DC, and volunteered her time to countless people and places. Mary made her family exceedingly proud when she graduated with her history degree from Virginian Wesleyan College in 1999. An active member of the Church of Ascension in Virginia Beach, she was loved by her church family, and never met a stranger because she spoke with everyone like an old friend, including, much to the chagrin of her children, every grocery store cashier and restaurant server. Her husband, Deacon Tom, went far above and beyond caring for Mary in their home until the final weeks of her horrible disease. The family would like to thank the caring, compassionate staff at Our Lady of Perpetual Help facility and the comforting nurses at Westminster Canterbury Hospice team.

Visitation is from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, 24 March 2023, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive in Va Beach. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, 25 March 2023, at 1:00 pm at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd in Virginia Beach, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please visit www.alz.org to make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association in Mary's honor.
