He joined the Illinois State Police, graduating with Academy Class 37 February 20, 1967. He was assigned as a trooper to District 5, Joliet. He remained there for his probationary period before transferring to District 11, Maryville. He spent the remainder of his career at District 11, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant December 31, 1991.
He had a combined 30 years of state service as he previously worked for the State Department of Transportation.
Following retirement, he and Marilyn relocated to The Villages, Sumter, Florida.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and his children.
