Obituary

Minnie Elisabeth Johnson, the child of Nicholas Schaffer and Eva Schundelmeir Schaffer, was born March 21, 1894, in Champaign, Ill. In infancy she was received into God's Kingdom of grace through Holy Baptism. On December 13, 1916, she was united in marriage to Walter L. Johnson at Carroll, Ia. Three children were born to this union, Esther Wood of Jefferson, Iowa, Dorothy Becker of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Melvin Johnson of Alta, Iowa.

In 1917, with her husband she was received into the membership of the Lutheran Church at Lake City, Ia. Since moving to Alta she was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies' Aid. She was a very cheerful person who enjoyed people and friends very much. She especially enjoyed gardening and her many flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, three brothers, and a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Becker of Storm Lake.

Last Thursday, October 27, 1983, at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa, she was called to her heavenly home at the age of 89.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Walter of Alta, her son, Melvin, and his wife, Harriet, of Alta, a daughter, Esther Wood of Jefferson, Ia., a brother, Fred Schaffer of Royal, Ill.; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

Services

Funeral services were held on October 29, 1983, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Alta, Iowa, the Rev. Richard W. Lammers, officiating.

Hymn selections "How Great Thou Art" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by the congregation accompanied at the organ by Rhonda Husman. Attendants were Kenneth Marrow, Charles Schaffer, Everett Schaffer, Roy Schaffer, George Schaffer Jr. and Carl Kalous. Interment was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park cemetery at Storm Lake under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.
